Do you know the layers of the Earth? Our 6th grade students started learning about the layers before spring break. Today, they had to turn in projects that shows their understanding of the Earth's layers. We have some very creative students! There were even a couple that were edible and made into a cake! How creative!

Cylinders, cones, and spheres - Oh My!!! Our 8th grade students had to work problems to put together the shape from all the different pieces! We want to challenge our students to think critically to solve problems. What a great way to show them that problem solving is a skill they will always need!

We don't take time off here at HJH, even if it's Friday! Our students are working hard to master their writing skills. Today, students were working together to create their 'extended constructed response' (ECR). This is just a fancy way to say ESSAY! The 7th grade students read a text over people being addicted to their phones, the alerts, and social media! How appropriate for this age group! Ask your 7th grade students which side of the argument they fall.

It's great when we have staff members who can fill in for the teacher and students don' t miss out on the content. Mr. Palmateer was teaching the 7th grade students in Coach Headrick's classes about the local oil 'boom and bust' cities! There are three right here in North Texas, can you name them? Ask your student if they had Mr. P for history today and see if they can tell you.
By the way, Burkburnett, Petrolia, and Electra are the ones he mentioned to the students in class today! Quiz your student about the 'boom and bust cycle' and what it means.

We have amazing students here at Henrietta Junior High! No one likes taking a test, but our students put their minds to work this week completing the practice (Interim) STAAR assessment for Reading. We are so PROUD of them! Just look at their growth from October 2025 to February 2026! The target each year is for a student to reach 'Meets', which means they are on grade level for that subject.
Next week students will take the same type of assessment for Math! We will send home individual student reports after spring break so you can celebrate YOUR student's growth so far this year. Now, we just need to get this growth to happen on the actual STAAR date. Students will take their Reading STAAR on the following dates:
6th grade: Wednesday April 8
7th grade: Thursday April 9
8th grade: Friday April 10
